Trimec Aviation, a certified Part 145 repair station based in Fort Worth, Texas, has added a Capital Avionics CA-420 digital compass rose system to calibrate an aircraft magnetic compass. The aircraft compass alignment tool uses an android tablet with Wi-Fi connectivity and features an RF communications link, advanced magnetic sensors and processors, which allows technicians to align the aircraft compass quickly and accurately, the company says. It has become difficult to locate traditional compass roses at airports, Trimec Aviation general manager John Holland said. An aircraft needs its magnetic compass recalibrated periodically. It also need recalibration when it has a major component change, is relocated to a significantly different latitude or has been able for a year or more, Holland said.
